Meet Hamida Muhammad founder of (HMDs Foundation)

Am 23 I did my primary school in Keffi nasarawa state I did my junior secondary school there too and my senior secondary school was in Kubwa Abuja and currently studying the English language in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Early Life in Sokoto

Born amidst the dusty streets and vibrant culture of Sokoto, my early life was a testament to both resilience and the power of familial love. While I seldom kept friends, there was one irreplaceable bond that stood out—Zainab. After her, I found solace in isolation, perhaps shielded from the world’s complexities.

Growing up wasn’t always a smooth sail. We faced challenges, the kind that tests one’s spirit, but the unwavering love of my parents, Muhammad and Amina, was our family’s anchor. Despite the hardships, they made sure the light of hope and unity never dimmed in our household.

My father, Muhammad, was a teacher—imparting knowledge and molding young minds. On the other hand, my mother, Amina, graced our home with warmth and love. Though primarily a homemaker, she harbored a keen business spirit, a trait that shone even in the simplest of dealings.

I am blessed with a plethora of siblings, each with their own unique character and essence. Sadatu, with her nurturing ways; Hauwau, always full of energy; Nasiru, the thinker; Umar, with his leadership qualities; Maryam, the compassionate; Sulaiman, our little philosopher; Hauwa and Fatima, our family’s twin stars; and Ibrahim, the youngest, always eager to explore. Through thick and thin, our bond only grew stronger, fostered by the undying efforts of our parents, ensuring we all had the privilege of education.

Navigating Adolescence and Early Adulthood

My academic journey led me to the grand halls of the university where I pursued my passion for the English language. However, my journey wasn’t just limited to the pages of textbooks or the confines of lecture halls. It was intertwined with personal challenges that tested my spirit and resilience.

Growing up as a girl child in my community was a tumultuous experience. The dark shadows of abuse and molestation loomed large, making my days challenging and, at times, overwhelming. Yet, I found solace and strength in isolation. Embracing myself, taking long introspective walks, indulging in deep thinking, or setting out on hikes became my ways of coping, healing, and growing.

My father stood as my beacon during these times. His influence, principles, and unwavering support helped me see the silver lining, even in the darkest of storms. Outside the confines of home, I found joy in hiking, traveling, and the innocent laughter of children—a testament to my enduring spirit.

It was my past experiences that ignited a spark in me, leading to the establishment of the HMDs foundation in 2021. With a mission to empower and support the girl child and advocate for women’s health and education, I envisioned a world where no girl would ever feel hopeless. Today, HMDs stands as a beacon of hope, and its creation is my proudest achievement, a testament to the fact that our past experiences can be channeled into a force for positive change.
